Lome

Lome is situated at the Guinean gulf and is the capital centre of Togo. The city can be traced back to early 1800s when Ewe people first settled in the region. In the fifties, Lome had only 30,000 inhabitants but ever since it got its independence from France in 1960 numbers drastically increased to the now 700,000 plus city dwellers. Main exports from this West African fertile land include cocoa pods, coffee, copra and palm kernels. The port is also famous for phosphorous trade and numerous refineries.

Economic effects of rural-urban migration

Moreover, market gardening around Lome is rife due to massive rates of unemployment and rural-urban migration. Demand for vegetables is high because they are the only affordable meal for thousands of low social-class city dwellers. Nevertheless, this kind of farming usually occurs around the salty sand beaches which are conducive for gardening due to high levels of essential minerals. Real estate investors are targeting city farmers who want to feed the ever increasing city populations. Land around the beach is quite cheap since there are very few commercial activities that take place in this region; however, financial returns are high due to high sale volumes registered by the farmers.

Climate and geography

In addition, Lome is a lagoon city experiencing at least two seasons of rain in a year. The first season begins in April and fades off in late July; while the second one comes by in September and extends to November. The equatorial climate experienced in Lome makes it a great centre for Hotel investors who have opened myriads of first class lodges along the beach. The average shade temperatures in Lome stand at around 30 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, sporadic dry winds emanating from the Sahara can bring down morning temperatures to around 20 degrees.

Heritage sites on sale

Lome is also famous for heritage sites such as the Grande Lome trade centre, voodoo market and the Cathedral. In addition, there are numerous colonial architectural structures such as galleries or arcades which are being auctioned by the day. One should note that most of these centers are owned by the government and can therefore be trusted when it comes to professional trade procedures. Nevertheless, one should be careful when applying for real estate bids particularly via online portals; the rate of cyber crime in this region is quite high. It is advisable to use well-known international auctioneers in the country rather than local ones which are not very authentic.
